Kuala Lumpur & Malaka

I met two really cool people at the Reggae Mansions in KL. An Aussie girl and an American guy. We spent a few days hanging out, visiting the bird park, Malaka and the Petronas Towers.

I love the bird park in KL, it was my second visit here in as many years. It’s a great walk, beautiful local foliage nestled right in the centre of town - a cooling escape from the heat of the city. Most of the birds roam free in the worlds largest free-flight walk-in aviary.

Malaka (Malacca) was also another cool day trip. Malaka is an old colonial port town, it has some historic buildings, churches and ships to explore. A little spoiled by the tourists and the new addition of a Hard Rock cafe, but the charm still persists despite the commercialisation. Just a few hours by bus it makes a good day trip if you have the time, but it’s hard to recommend more than just meandering down alleyways and enjoying local food - reminded me a lot of Hoi An in Vietnam actually.

Returning from Malaka I start to feel ill. Hot and cold shivers and stomach pains. This would be the start of my next few bed-ridden days before my flight out to Australia. The delhi-belly had hit - inevitably.
